I Am Enough Spread

The I am Enough Spread is great to use if you feel self-doubt or less than favourable self talk has been holding you back.

As you can see , the I Am Enough Spread is fairly straight forward. In my experience I find simple spreads tend to be the best because they are more flexible. There are many ways you can approach this spread.

Laying out the I Am Enough Spread

For Position 1 – Who Am I? you can select a card sight unseen, (as I did), or you can consciously choose a card. Even this can be done in many ways.

For example, you can choose:

  • the Major Arcana card that aligns with your star sign
    • Aries – The Emperor
    • Taurus – The Hierophant
    • Gemini – The Lovers
    • Cancer – The Chariot
    • Leo – The Sun
    • Virgo – The Hermit
    • Libra – Justice
    • Scorpio – Death
    • Sagittarius – Temperance
    • Capricorn – The Devil
    • Aquarius – The Star
    • Pisces – The Moon
  • a Major Arcana card whose energy you want to connect with
    • For example The Emperor for leadership
  • a Court card that links to your sign
    • Most simply: Cups for Pisces, Scorpio or Cancer;
    • Wands for Aries, Leo, Sagittarius;
    • Swords for Gemini, Libra, Aquarius;
    • Pentacles for Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.
  • a Court card you identify with or would like to
    • For example you may choose the Queen of Wands because you want to embody her confidence

I have included 3 cards for both “What I Offer” and “Why That’s Enough” because I believe we all have a lot more to offer than we realise. You could follow this idea to include the initial “Who Am I?” card as well if you wanted to. After all, we are definitely all many, many things. I generally don’t because I want to focus on one aspect at a time. Another option is to ask “Who Am I?” in “(a particular situation)” and go from there. As with all spreads, you are in charge.

Finally, I draw one card that serves as a message card. I find this card tends to draw everything together.

Once I have looked at the cards in their particular positions I look for additional connections and messages. It is probably easiest to explain this via an example.

I Am Enough Sample Spread

Initial Interpretation

I was doing this as a random spread, but as always I have been reminded there is no such thing. Therefore, I am going to refer to myself in this spread explanation. However, if it resonates then it is for you also. This will only be a brief analysis but it will give you some idea about how I work with this spread.

Position 1 – Who Am I?

Firstly, seeing the Ten of Wands as Who I Am suggests carrying too many burdens and not successfully delegating or perhaps not being willing to put some things down. There’s also a sense of feeling the need to keep it all together. But, the beauty of the ten is that this is coming to an end – or it can if I let it. Put simply, I see the who-I-am here is pointing to the root of my current energy.

Position 2 – What I Offer

Yet, what I need to remember is what I can offer and focus on that. I am someone who is fair-minded and who believes, for the most part, that life is a wonderful adventure full of joy. I do believe that we should share what brings us joy with those around us. Unfortunately, sometimes I forget.

Position 3 – Why That’s Enough

Focusing on creating what brings me joy and moving away from things that don’t is enough because of the example it sets. There’s an oft sprouted writing adage which applies just as much to life if we let it. “Show, don’t tell.” Besides, situations change. Just because something may be difficult now, it can, and will change, or we do. I look at the Six of Swords below the Three of Wands and I realise I need to move away from wishing I could wave a magic wand and make everything fair and “right” in my loved one’s worlds. That’s not my role.

Position 4 – The Message / Advice

The message is to focus on creating a sense of emotional equilibrium without ignoring or disregarding what is going on around me. Instead make peace with it and seek to understand how it is serving me.

Wow, I am coming back to this post two days later and the change suggested by the Wheel of Fortune has come to pass. The change has been in me. Putting some of the wands down, even only within myself, has made a huge difference. When I pulled these cards, this spread really wasn’t supposed to be about me. But I’ll move on.

Additional interpretations

Next, having read the cards in their positions, I look at how they are talking, or not talking, to each other.

For this I start to look at body positions, similarities, differences, colours, repetitions, and suits. Basically I look at whatever stands out to me. It may be as simple as a small element on the card that catches my eye. Or it may be what I feel has caught the eye of one of the people or animals on the cards.

I have marked out some of the cards that initially stood out to me. But, as is often the case, I have noticed so much more since then. Nevertheless, if I started to mark out all the connections you wouldn’t be able to see the cards themselves. So I’m going to leave it as it is and share a few examples.

Firstly, looking at the Page of Cups, Six of Swords and Wheel of Fortune, outside the constraints of their position, I see that I keep moving away from what it is I want to create and that needs to change. I am acutely aware of what the wind is highlighting on the wheel.

Also, as you can see, cats feature on each of the Everyday Witch Tarot cards so I look to them for messages. For example, I look to see which cards feature the same colour cat and at what they’re doing. The black cat on the Justice card looks like it is trying to defend itself against the white one and in the Six of Swords its solution is to retreat. Here I see the moon on the Six of Swords as representing fears and so fear is driving the move. The black cats on The Sun and indeed on the Three of Wands above the Six of Swords are in a much more positive frame of mind and thus a more favourable position. Message – put out what brings you joy and don’t worry about the opinions of others.

I note something else that is also so simple and yet so easy to forget. When you’re not sure what to leave behind, leave behind the things that take you away from joy, or contentment or a sense of abundance. It isn’t about being right. It’s about living in alignment with what you love and what’s important to you. Doing so rarely feels like a burden.

Life isn’t always easy and we need to find ways to deal with the things that can throw us off kilter but if something or someone is robbing you of your sense of self, your sense of balance, or constantly causing discontent, jump on that broom on the Six of Swords and move away. Or, simply stop giving power to those that try and bring you down. On the Three of Wands she has turned her back on The Sun to try and negate the squabble between the cats when all she really needs to do is turn around and focus on those that would celebrate her.

Now if you’ve ever had a reading with me you know I will keep pulling messages out of this spread. Or I will add to it to delve deeper. But hopefully you get the gist of how I work with this spread. If you try the I Am Enough Spread, I’d love to know how you find it. You can email me through the contacts page or message me through MJStarot on Facebook.

Finally, if this message was for you, my wish is that you find your way to The Sun.
