    Magicmakers Tarot

Magicmakers Tarot featured on my ‘Upcoming decks I’m excited for in 2025’ post earlier this year but it took me a while to get around to buying it. I had pre-ordered all the decks from that post, and ordered several others at the same time so something had to give. Since I already owned Paulina Fae’s (Cassidy) Joie de Vivre and Spiritsong Tarot, I chose to put the Magicmakers Tarot on my ‘later’ pile. Also I think I’d got myself a bit caught up in taking things all too seriously and so I wondered what this deck would add. It turns out it adds just what I needed – a…

    Magical Hours Tarot

The collage style of Magical Hours Tarot reminds me of both Tarot of Mystical Moments and The Dreamkeepers Tarot albeit in different ways and with a different focus. This ensures it doesn’t feel like a redundant addition to my collection. Furthermore it introduced me to a new way of interpreting certain cards which in turn opened up the interpretive possibilities across several other decks. The more decks I work with the more I find they talk to each other. Some say, “But wait, what about this approach?” while others feel like they continue the story. The Magical Hours Tarot had a lot to say about many things, some of which…

    Japaridze Tarot

I am in the process of creating a multi-purpose story spread as part of a bigger project so each day I test it from different perspectives using different decks. This morning when I turned to grab a deck my hand rested on the Japaridze Tarot. And, to be honest, my first reaction was “pick again.” Fortunately I didn’t. I trusted my process — work with whichever deck stands out to me. Surrealist art draws me in because it challenges me. With a headache, and a lingering viral-type illness, I wasn’t feeling the need to add any additional challenges, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover I hadn’t. This deck spoke…

    Fairy Tale Tarot

I had coveted the Fairy Tale Tarot from the moment I became aware of it. Back then it was out of print and selling for prices way above my budget so when Lisa Hunt announced that US Games was releasing a second edition I eagerly awaited the pre-order date. I have owned her Animals Divine Tarot for years and her Pastoral Tarot is one of my favourites, so I expected to love this deck also. And I have to say, the artwork didn’t disappoint. General information about the Fairy Tale Tarot The Fairy Tale Tarot combines Lisa Hunt’s signature watercolour art with a range of fairy tales from Europe, Asia…

    Dreaming Way Tarot

When I bought this deck midway through last year, I flicked through it, and then largely forgot about it. Fortunately, in response to a comment on another post, we became reacquainted. The timing couldn’t have been better. The Dreaming Way Tarot has its own way of delivering messages. As an added bonus, it’s a very chatty deck. I had forgotten about that. Why I’m not sure. My initial notes were four pages long which is double what I would normally produce on my first flick through. So, with such a talkative deck, this post could get long. I’ll try and keep it reined in. Let’s see how I go. General…

Upcoming decks I’m excited for in 2025

So, here is my top 5 upcoming decks (mass market only) list. All the decks to follow will become available in the first half of the year and I’m pleased to say that this time I am excited for decks from both Llewellyn and US Games Inc. This year there’s an oracle on the list as well. I’ll start with that one and then move on to the four tarot decks. Forest of Enchantment Oracle Okay well this one is a no brainer for me. I have been watching its progress on Instagram for a while now with growing enthusiasm. I am a fan of Meraylah Allwood’s artwork. Actually that…

    Joie de Vivre Tarot

I bought Joie de Vivre Tarot back in October 2022 but, to be honest, I hadn’t really reached for it until recently. In researching for a post I’m currently writing about upcoming decks, Paulina Fae’s new one caught my attention. This in turn renewed my interest in this one. I am so glad it did because I have found this deck to be so clever and a true pleasure to work with. The Joie de Vivre Tarot Deck Joie de Vivre Tarot wants to do as its name suggests and inspire feelings of joy in those that use it. When I read things like that my instinct is to go…

Earthly Souls and Spirits Moon Oracle

I have a few art crushes and Terri Foss’s artwork is definitely one of them. Her process reels on Instagram captivate me. However, since I go through phases with oracle cards, it took me way longer than it should have to purchase Earthly Souls and Spirits Moon Oracle. Holding these cards in my hands was even better than I expected. So much so that I went straight on to Terri Foss’s Etsy store with the intention of purchasing one of her prints. Unfortunately she doesn’t ship to Australia. If you like this deck though and you live in the USA or Canada then it is worth checking out her store.…

    Hanson-Roberts Tarot

The characters who initially seemed a little unusual made sense to me once I reimagined the Hanson-Roberts Tarot as a portal into a fairy tale world. Then everything changed. Once upon a time I looked at the cards and saw frozen figures and the lack of movement in the images bothered me. But, during my interview with the deck it suggested to me that was exactly what I needed to see. I wrote, “I want to bring you into the now, show you a snapshot of the current moment.” From then on I understood the role of this deck for me. It is my here and now deck. A focus,…

    Erenberg Tarot

Tarot seeks to show us a different way of looking at things. The Erenberg Tarot shows us a different way of looking at tarot. Tarot of the Hidden Realm and the Morgan Greer Tarot put us more up close an personal than most decks. But to compare them to the Erenberg Tarot‘s up close and personal approach is like comparing photos of a full moon taken on my phone with those taken with a telephoto lens. Now this is all great but why do this? Why? Well firstly because it’s different and that in itself is great. It’s refreshing; it’s interesting and it’s exciting. Secondly, it allows you to hone…
