Selenite Crystals

Guest post by Elgan Larsen

Elgan reached out to me to ask whether I would consider publishing a guest post about selenite crystals. Since I have been collecting crystals since I was eighteen years old, ten years prior to my fascination with tarot, I agreed. Dealing with Elgan has been a pleasure.

About Elgan Larsen

Elgan grew up in North Wales, where the mountains meet the sea. He has loved crystals since his grandfather introduced him to his fossil and mineral collection. Over the years his passion grew, especially towards selenite.

Selenite is one of his favourite crystals because of its calming and cleansing energy. He sells a broad range of selenite products including lamps, bowls, wands and jewellery. However, he is quick to point out that for him, it is not about selling crystals. Rather it’s about helping people bring positive energies into their lives. I connected with this sentiment because I write about tarot for the same reason. For Elgan, being so close to nature is inspiring and he loves to share this sense of calmness through healing crystals.

So, now I’ll hand over to Elgan.

What are healing crystals? How are they formed?

Healing crystals are minerals and some people believe that their properties promote emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being. People from various cultures use these crystals for protection, grounding, and meditation. It is believed that each crystal has its own vibration and healing qualities. For example, it is believed that rose quartz can help with emotional healing and amethyst is known for its calming energy.

These crystals are formed deep underground, where there is both high pressure and high heat. Over long periods of time crystals form, each with their own specific structure. Different forms of heat and pressure will create different types of crystals.

Some crystals take a very long time to form in underground cavities, while other crystals form in volcanoes from the cooling magma. While other crystals, like Selenite, can form through the continuous evaporation of sea water. This process can take thousands, if not millions of years. People believe that since the crystals take so long to form they carry healing energies. They are often used in meditation, worn in jewellery, and placed around the home. These crystals are not only sought for their natural beauty but for their ability to support inner peace and balance.

Charging and cleansing your crystals

Crystals can absorb energy, both bad and good. Overusing the crystal can cause the crystal to lose its abilities. It is important to regularly charge and cleanse your crystal.

Without cleansing or charging, your crystal can start to feel dull, heavy, and less effective. Just like charging a battery, charging the crystal gives it fresh energy. Here are some easy ways to cleanse your crystal.

Running water

Some crystals can be charged under running water; avoid this method with soft porous crystals. Always check before using this method.

Smudging

Passing the crystal through sage, palo santo, or incense smoke can cleanse the crystal.

Moonlight

Simply leaving the crystal on a windowsill during a full moon cycle can charge and cleanse your crystal.

Sunlight

Leaving the crystal in natural sunlight can help energize the crystal. Extra caution is required with some crystals as some stones can lose their colours if left for too long in direct sunlight.

Salt

Simply place a crystal in a bowl of dried sea salt. Again caution should be taken with this method as it is not suitable for delicate stones.

The Powerful Selenite

Selenite is considered one of the most powerful crystal. It has one of the highest vibrations out of all of the crystals, and it is well known for its cleansing abilities. Selenite is often used to cleanse other healing stones, spaces, and auras. What makes selenite so special is that it is a self-cleansing healing crystal.
