7 of Cups spread
This 7 of Cups spread was inspired by the 7 of Cups from the Superlunaris Tarot. I was looking at the individual cups and I thought rather than generalising it to having multiple options, or daydreaming, or ungrounded ideas and so on I’d look at what each cup might have to offer.
Possible applications
- When you are trying to explore an idea further
- As a general check in to see where you’re at
- To help you generate ideas

An example
To share a brief example of the 7 of Cups Spread I asked the questions in relation to this website. I was surprised to see the Knight of Cups come up in the same position as the first time I used the spread which you can see pictured at the top of this post.

1.What is a truth I need to express or explore? Knight of Cups
This is about going where my heart takes me and in encouraging others to do the same.
2. What do I need to focus on? 10 of Pentacles
I need to focus on what I’d like this website to be known for and what messages/information I want to pass on.
3. What do I need to let go of? 4 of Wands
This is an interesting card in light of the two that have come before and it gives added meaning to the 10 of Pentacles. I need to let go of being married to a single idea. This reminds me of the need to follow my heart and what excites me and to indeed make that the legacy of the website.
4. What is my greatest strength? XI Justice
I believe in staying true to the rules I set for myself when I started this site. If you’ve read much of my website you will notice that I like every deck I write about. That is intentional. If I don’t connect with a deck I don’t write about it. I appreciate that people have put time and effort into creating their deck and I refuse to dismiss their work because I didn’t gel with it at the time. We all have different tastes and different approaches and what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another. Or more importantly in this case, I am also aware that what doesn’t work for me one day can work for me on another. Therefore I am committed to revisiting decks in my collection that didn’t initially thrill me. Finally I won’t diss a deck or say I like something that I don’t. Nor will I embellish a personal story for effect. The words I write are the truth as I know it.
5. What does success look like to me? 9 of Pentacles
Being able to remain independent and free to share what I want to share is success in my eyes. When I look at the spread as it is laid out in front of me I notice that the woman on Justice is looking away from the 9 of Pentacles which confirms that I will not sell out in order to make money, nor will you ever come to this site and find it saturated with ads. I want this to be a quiet space where you can spend some time without getting spammed every few seconds. As I continue to look at the spread I see that the woman on the 9 of Pentacles is looking up at the 10 of Pentacles. I want this to be a space where we can come together and share information and experiences.
6. What is unseen/unformed as yet? 10 of Cups
This card surprised me. But as I looked at it I noticed it was the most open of all the cards. It is the joy and contentment that comes from being free to explore without having to follow a set path. I need to really own that and see the magic to be found in it. It also makes me wonder what I’m going to stumble upon that is going to bring me a level of satisfaction that I am as yet unaware of.
7. What provides the foundation, a sense of stability? Page of Swords
That ultimately this is a learning space for me and hopefully for others. It is a place I share my thoughts and in the act of writing I embrace and discover new knowledge and new ways of thinking. The underlying foundation for the website is curiosity.
Wrapping it all up
This is a very brief account of how I interpreted this spread. Nevertheless you can see how, in this example I have focused on directionality, as in who’s looking/or not looking at who. Other aspects I considered were the presence of Justice under Knight of Cups and the influence they have on each other. This also felt relevant to the 4 of Wands and the 10 of Cups positioning. Other pairings I suggest considering are the link between position 2 and position 7 and also position 5 with position 1. Obviously there are so many links you could make — astrological associations, the significance of buildings versus landscapes, number of people etc. It all just depends on what stands out at the time.
If you give this spread a try I’d love to hear how you found it. Let me know in the comments or by sending an email. To send an email just click here.
