Star and Strength Tarot for Beginners

The Star and Strength Tarot for Beginners, has been a real surprise. Since I prefer my tarot decks to be keyword free, having meanings printed on the cards seemed like a lot of distraction to overcome. But I also appreciate beginner friendly tarot decks. So, when Antonio reached out about this deck I was willing to give it a try. I’m glad I did! This deck has had such a positive impact in my household and it really has a lot to offer. The Star and Strength Tarot Cards The Star and Strength Tarot is exactly what it claims to be — a tarot deck for beginners. Using the RWS…

    Tarot of Pagan Cats

I came to be writing about the Tarot of Pagan Cats quite by accident. Initially I was going to use it as an exemplar in a different post. But I quickly discovered that it deserved more than a secondary role in an article. I found I wanted to explore it more deeply in its own right. It has a lot to say and I like that it does it in a non-threatening yet straight to the point manner. It has been a pleasure getting to know this deck. The Tarot of Pagan Cats Cards I wrote in my first impression notes that the Tarot of Pagan Cats ‘isn’t my prettiest…

    Folkloric Forest Tarot

I was inspired to buy the Folkloric Forest Tarot after I saw it over on the temperanceandtruth Instagram page. If you’re not familiar with this page, I’d suggest taking a look when you get a chance. In the Energy of the Week posts she showcases several versions of the same card and I thoroughly enjoy flicking through the selections she puts together. She has a wonderful tarot collection to draw from. But back to this indie deck published by Lennox Rees. It too is curated. But, rather than drawing from a selection of tarot decks to tell an individual story, Lennox Rees has drawn from antique art available on the…

How skulls helped me see the light

So, how did I come to be writing a post about skulls? Quite organically it seems. Two days ago, after I read my recent Blue post to my daughter, I was talking to her about writing and how tarot provides endless source material. To show her what I meant, and no doubt to prove it to myself yet again, I reached for the closest deck, which happened to be the Folkloric Forest Tarot, and started shuffling. While my intentions were purely demonstrative, it quickly became apparent that the cards and my subconscious had other ideas. Unbeknownst to me at the time, looking at the randomly selected card, The Hermit, sowed…

Why blue is more than just a colour

The other day I was watching Richard Powers being interviewed on You Tube. In the interview, David Perell was asking him to expand on his previous comment, “When you’re sure of what you’re looking at look harder.” He responded, “Yeah because when you’re sure, you’re not moving, and reality is always moving.” It probably comes as no surprise that I linked this idea with tarot as I do with so many other things. Fast forward an hour and I’ve snuck into the shower for some peace and quiet and I realised something — I often fall into familiar ways of thinking. While I readily acknowledge that card meanings are influenced…

    The Green Witch’s Oracle Deck

According to the notes I wrote when I first opened The Green Witch’s Oracle Deck I bought it to pair with The Antique Anatomy Tarot. To be honest I don’t remember that. But it’s what I wrote at the time so it must have been the case. Although, I don’t remember ever pairing the two until it came time to write this review either so I’m not sure what’s going on. All I do know is that I like this deck. I like it a lot. The Green Witch’s Oracle Deck And, while I might not remember what inspired me to combine them I’m glad I listened. They work so…

    Magicmakers Tarot

Magicmakers Tarot featured on my ‘Upcoming decks I’m excited for in 2025’ post earlier this year but it took me a while to get around to buying it. I had pre-ordered all the decks from that post, and ordered several others at the same time so something had to give. Since I already owned Paulina Fae’s (Cassidy) Joie de Vivre and Spiritsong Tarot, I chose to put the Magicmakers Tarot on my ‘later’ pile. Also I think I’d got myself a bit caught up in taking things all too seriously and so I wondered what this deck would add. It turns out it adds just what I needed – a…

    The Radiant Tarot

I first saw The Chariot from The Radiant Tarot on Trishtaytarot’s Instagram feed. Prior to that I’d never taken any notice of the deck. But the artistic choices on The Chariot really stood out to me so I wanted to discover more. When I did, the combination of The Hierophant on the cover, the subtitle, ‘Pathway to Creativity’, and the marketing blurb, led me to buy it on the spot. I don’t usually do that anymore because I am much more selective about the decks I add to my collection. But, as with anything, there are always exceptions. The Radiant Tarot Cards I wasn’t disappointed. Taking 12 years to complete,…

    Mindscapes Tarot

Finding a hand-drawn, classically rendered landscape deck like the Mindscapes Tarot, had been on my mental to-do list for a long time. Yet, somehow, I seem to be one of the few people in the tarot world that wasn’t aware of the original Majors only version of this deck that was released on Kickstarter. Maybe I prematurely dismissed it back then because I don’t buy Majors only decks, I’m not sure. But, I pre-ordered this mass-market, 80-card version as soon as it was listed. When I opened the box and saw, 0 The Fool, my first thought was, “I’m going to really like this,” and I was right. I do.…

    Fifth Spirit Tarot

It took me a while to add Fifth Spirit Tarot to my collection because, to be honest, I didn’t think it was for me. But I kept hearing others say how much they loved it and so I thought I might have been missing something. After all popular decks are popular for a reason. I found the reason. Still, it has taken me months to write about it. Today I answered the call to start to write this post, (although I have to admit that all the notes had been written more than a week ago, so there was yet another round of procrastination before I truly connected with the…
