    The Herbal Astrology Oracle

The Herbal Astrology Oracle is a very recent addition to my oracle card collection. I added it because I feel more and more drawn to explore the many ways plants can help us heal. This started with The Herbcrafter’s Tarot and continues with The Herbal Astrology Oracle. Each has something unique to offer. Adriana Ayales created this deck “to bring us back to the original consciousness that prevailed on earth for millennia.” She then goes on to write, “Herbalism is the medicine of belonging, a gateway through which we keep alive a very sacred aspect to our source.” Josephine Klerks’ stunning artwork encourages these connections. The Herbal Astrology Oracle Cards…

    The Unfolding Path Tarot

Introduction You know that feeling you get when you find yourself completely immersed in a deck from the outset? That’s how I felt from my very first flip through of The Unfolding Path Tarot. I promise I will try not to gush too much as I share with you the reasons why. You may have to bear with me a little though. The Unfolding Path Tarot Cards The Unfolding Path Tarot celebrates a diverse range of modern characters. Athene Noctua represents various ages, nationalities, sexualities, abilities and body shapes in a way that doesn’t feel tokenistic. Instead you meet people you can bot connect with, and relate to, in some…

What is the difference between tarot and oracle cards?

The difference The difference between tarot and oracle cards is quite simple. Tarot cards follow a set system, whereas oracle cards do not. A tarot deck consists of twenty-two Major Arcana cards, (although more and more decks are adding a few cards here eg The Bohemian Animal Tarot, The Tarot of Curious Creatures and Tarot of Oneness), and four suits each with fourteen cards, four of which are court cards. There is considerable variance in the naming of the Major Arcana, the suits, and the court cards but the structure itself remains constant. Albeit some decks, but not many, switch the energy of the Wands (Fire) and Swords (Air) suits.…

    Manifesting Your Greatness

Manifesting Your Greatness is a simple, straight to the point oracle deck. Just the type of deck you want when your life, your mind, or your emotions are anything but. It’s stylised art is bright, busy without being overwhelming, whimsical, and fun. When I pull this deck off my shelf and open it up, it feels, and presents like, a little treasure trove of well-placed advice. Manifesting Your Greatness Cards Manifesting Your Greatness offers 46 cards which is similar to several of the other oracle decks in my collection. However, since I really enjoy the characters and their fresh no nonsense approach, I would like to have heard more of…

    Soul Cats Tarot

Introduction The Soul Cats Tarot is my fourth cat-based tarot deck. It sits alongside Grimalkin’s Curious Cats Tarot, Black Cats Tarot, and Mystical Cats Tarot. Yet it is in no way superfluous. Each have something to offer. Creator Leeza Robertson (Animal Totem Tarot, Mermaid Tarot, Cirque du Tarot), says of the Soul Cats Tarot, One of the main focuses of this deck is for the soul cats to teach you … that beauty, purpose and gifts have nothing to do with how you look, and that all shapes, sizes, colours and breeds are important. and I don’t believe it is possible to over share, or over state, that message. This…

    The Penumbra Tarot

Introduction I find it difficult to nail down and easily describe The Penumbra Tarot. Everyday scenes, merpeople, animals, sea goats, and fae all feature, so inclusive, mythical, elemental, traditional and fantastical all come to mind. Inspired by the RWS, Mary-El, Thoth, and the Shadowscapes tarot, artist Eris Elisabeth says it “straddles the mundane and the otherworldly” and I can see that. The first word that came to mind for me though was generous. There are two additional cards. On one you’ll find a William Blake quote and clear contact details to cover you just in case you have any issues with the deck. On the other you’re given access to…

5 Different Versions of the RWS Tarot Compared

Introduction So many people say that if you want to learn tarot you should start with, or at least have, a version of the original RWS deck. And, for many reasons, I am one of them. The most basic reason of all is that, if you learn the RWS tarot, you can develop a solid base of knowledge that allows you to read any RWS-based deck more easily. Since the RWS tarot is the pictorial language that many creators have translated into their own artistic style, knowing the base language means you can draw additional meanings from your RWS-inspired deck. I find this is a two way process. If you’ve…

Tarot: A Life Guided by the Cards by Maddy Elruna

Introduction I haven’t written a post about a tarot book, (you’ll find others here), for a while but that isn’t because I haven’t been reading them. I love reading tarot books and tarot guidebooks. They always add something to my understanding or remind me of something I have forgotten over the years. Tarot: A Life Guided by the Cards is a great book. Author, Maddy Elruna, writes about the book, “I aimed to create a practical “how to” book, but with my life story and real life spreads through out the book – a story to bring the cards to life,” and she succeeded. Focused on the RWS tarot, this…

    Traditional Manga Tarot

Introduction I am not a manga fan. I have never read manga nor watched anime, but recently I started looking at some manga-themed decks. The Traditional Manga Tarot is the first one I have added to my collection. I saw it while watching Swimming Through the Void on YouTube. I connected with it instantly and bought it as soon as I had the chance. After two readings, done back-to-back, the Traditional Manga Tarot went straight into one of the carved wooden boxes that live on my desk. That’s the level of connection I feel with this deck. Even though I was drawn to it when I first saw it, I…

My first experience of reading with blended decks

Inspired by SanTarot over on YouTube, I decided to do a reading with three decks blended into one. I used three of the four Chris-Anne decks I own – The Muse Tarot, The Tarot of Curious Creatures and The Light Seer’s Tarot – because I knew colour-, size- and energy-wise they would blend well. They did and WOW! The logistics of working with blended decks Before I get into the reading, let me start with the logistics. I have big hands and I shuffle decks every day, and truth be told I managed to hold all three decks in my hand at once, but then I had no idea what…
