Combine tarot and journaling to edit your life story
Our lives are a series of stories. That’s not to say that they progress along an individual story arc, nor that they go to the plan we may have in our head. In reality we live multiple stories at any given time. That would be way too complicated if we were to try and capture them in a single novel or memoir. No-one would be able to follow that! After all, characters we consider “real” in books don’t share the mind blowing number of thoughts most of us have swimming around in our heads at any given moment. As I write these initial few lines, my mind is considering whether…

How journaling can change your life
I wrote an article about mindfulness and meditation called How to tap into the power of the present which you can access by clicking here. However, I really believe journaling can be a mindful practice as well because it also brings awareness to where you are now. Plus the benefits of meditation and journaling are very similar. Here’s a far from exhaustive list of the benefits of journaling: Journaling can: boost your mood enhance your sense of well being reduce symptoms of depression reduce intrusion and avoidance symptoms after trauma improve your working memory help you to accept your emotions help you to manage stress strengthen you immune system lower…

Deviant Moon Tarot
This is a deck I put off buying for a long time. To be honest, I found it creepy and disturbing. But, I kept noticing that other people fell in love with it once they owned it. I couldn’t help wondering if that would be the case for me as well. I knew it was possible. When I first saw The Wild Unknown Tarot I couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about. Now I own all three of Kim Krans’ decks, (The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit, The Wild Unknown Tarot and The Wild Unknown Archetypes), and her book Blossom and Bones. First, second, third and subsequent impressions can indeed…

Everyday Witch Tarot
I really enjoy working with the Everyday Witch Tarot for many reasons. It reminds me, in part, of the initial Harry Potter books/films – lighter in tone yet still having important messages to deliver. This deck is the same in several ways. At first glance it may appear to be just a light and playful deck, and that it is, but it’s also much more than that. It’s an easy to read and approachable deck that helps you get to the heart of the matter in a non-threatening way. And, as alluded to in the opening, it’s a great story telling deck. That, for me, is important. More importantly though,…

The Ink Witch Tarot
The Ink Witch Tarot is an eclectic deck that draws inspiration from the Rider Waite Smith tarot, Greek, Egyptian and Norse Mythology, Arthurian legends, European folk stories and fairy tales, and the magic to be found in every day life and experiences. It combines all of these ideas, yet it feels like a coherent, well thought out, modern deck that manages to add new viewpoints and ideas whilst still honouring tarot traditions. The Ink Witch Tarot Deck I love the ink and watercolour artwork and the clever use of warm and cool grey tones. For a long time this has been one of my favourite colour palettes. It definitely contributed…

The Rose Oracle
I saw The Grandmothers card on You Tube and, quite unexpectedly, it connected me with an aspect of myself I had buried. It’s The Rose Oracle that urged me to connect with the Divine Feminine. Prior to reading the companion book I had no idea why. The second verse of the Rose Oracle Attunement, that comes printed both on a card and within the guidebook, explains the intention behind The Rose Oracle and helped me recognise why it called to me so strongly. It aligns with my personal intention. ‘May it be a gateway for all to return to ourselves, the Earth, and each other. May our connection with the…

The Sasuraibito Tarot
The Sasuraibito Tarot is a contemporary deck that stands out for all the right reasons. It’s not different just for the sake of being different. It’s a powerful healing deck that encourages you to let go of anything that you hold on to purely for appearances. The message that shines through when I work with this deck The Sasuraibito Tarot is to seek who you are not who you, or others, think you should be. The Sasuraibito Tarot Deck Stasia Burrington, the deck’s creator, says this deck was inspired by the Rider Waite Smith system, contemporary living, and Japanese and Buddhist ideas. These influences are present in the artwork and…

Goddess Dream Oracle
The Goddess Dream Oracle is a beautiful deck that aims to reconnect you with your intuition and who you really are. The imagery is soothing, gentle, powerful and inviting. It is a world I want to step into; a mindset available to us all. The Goddess appears in all Her forms. Here she is presented as ‘maiden of creativity, mother of love and crone of sacred wisdom.’ The Goddess Dream Oracle Deck The cards pictured above highlight the animals that feature prominently in this deck. They are all beautifully rendered and as such speak directly to you. You can feel them and their energy and therefore their messages are clear.…

Tarot and Astrology by Corrine Kenner
Whether you’re an astrologer wanting to branch into tarot or a tarot reader wanting to deepen your understanding of the cards by incorporating astrological associations into your interpretations, then Tarot and Astrology may be what you’re looking for. If you’re after the basics then the included tables can serve you well but in order to get the most from this book you will have to be willing to work your way through it. Before reading Tarot and Astrology my astrology knowledge was limited. I knew which star sign or planet linked to each Major Arcana and a little about what that meant. I also had a vague understanding of the…

Sun and Moon Tarot
The Sun and Moon Tarot is a Thoth inspired deck that seamlessly incorporates aspects of Judaic mysticism, Jungian archetypes, astrology and mythology. By intertwining ancient cultural symbolism from several systems with contemporary artwork, this deck is bound to appeal to those seeking cards with a modern feel that don’t stray too far from traditional tarot. The Sun and Moon Tarot Deck I wasn’t sure how I’d find the faceless people on these cards. But, as crazy as it might seem, I find them full of expression. Maybe it’s because, rather than seeing somebody else’s interpretation, I can see the facial expressions that I feel fit with the setting and what…
