The Tarot of Vampyres
As someone who has never been drawn to vampires, I had no desire to buy The Tarot of Vampyres. But, I kept hearing about the amazing accompanying book, so I finally relented. I am so glad I did. The book is everything people had said about it and so much more. It drew me in completely and now I cannot imagine not having this deck in my collection. It is one of the most empowering decks I own. The Tarot of Vampyres Cards Ian Daniels, the deck’s creator, writes that “The Tarot of Vampyres is designed to help us face our fears – as well as our hopes, passions, and…

The Steampunk Tarot
Barbara Moore writes, “Throughout the images in this deck, you will see humans and machines, nature and devices, science and alchemy, light and dark, despair and kindness, loss and grace, pain and healing.” What I experienced were some aha moments that helped me see certain cards in a whole new light. The Steampunk Tarot doesn’t appeal to me visually in the way many other decks do, but that hasn’t prevented me gaining a lot from working with it. And, as I get to know the characters and spend more time in their world, the artwork is definitely growing on me. I have always looked for how things fit together as…

Tarot in Wonderland
I began writing this review as I sat outside Westmead Children’s Hospital waiting for my grandson to come out of surgery. So, this deck and I have a strong bond. For the five hours I sat at a café situated just outside the hospital, (damn you Covid), Tarot in Wonderland was a comforting and insightful companion. Just like Alice when she went down the rabbit hole, I was transported to a new way of thinking about myself and how I engage with the world and time flew by. Therefore, to say I found this tarot set powerful is a gross understatement. But, it’s not just the cards. The book is…

Wizards Tarot
The Wizards Tarot combines Barbara Moore’s tarot knowledge with bright and colourful imagery that depicts magic and “magic makers” in a practical, everyday sense. Moore makes the world of magic and its possibilities accessible to all. Furthermore, she urges people to see tarot as a skill to be developed over time rather than an overwhelming and arcane practice beyond the reach of many. And, she shows how tarot can be integrated into our day to day lives and suggests what we may gain if we do. That makes this a great deck for people just starting out with tarot. The Wizards Tarot Deck I have many of Barbara Moore’s tarot…

Everyday Witch Oracle
I bought the Everyday Witch Oracle because I really like reading with the Everyday Witch Tarot and lately I have a bit of a thing about “sets”. If that wasn’t the case I probably wouldn’t have bought this deck and I would have missed out on adding a great oracle to my collection. I don’t identify as a witch though and maybe that was part of my initial resistance. The back of the box begins, ‘Improve your craft with magic cats, pointed hats and spell work galore.’ and whilst it fits with the whole vibe of the deck I don’t connect with the blurb. Yet there is nothing off putting…

Animal Totem Tarot
How many animal-themed tarot decks do you need? I don’t know. But, since I have seventeen of them, none of which I’d consider parting with, I’d say keep them coming. As long as they have something to offer, why not? Obviously I love animal decks and the Animal Totem Tarot was a welcome addition to my collection. As the name suggests, and the book blurb confirms, this deck is aimed towards people keen to work with power animals and/or animal totems. However, I feel this deck is actually for anyone that loves animals; that loves the artwork; or for anyone keen to add an easy-to-work-with animal deck to their collection.…

Everyday Witch Tarot
I really enjoy working with the Everyday Witch Tarot for many reasons. It reminds me, in part, of the initial Harry Potter books/films – lighter in tone yet still having important messages to deliver. This deck is the same in several ways. At first glance it may appear to be just a light and playful deck, and that it is, but it’s also much more than that. It’s an easy to read and approachable deck that helps you get to the heart of the matter in a non-threatening way. And, as alluded to in the opening, it’s a great story telling deck. That, for me, is important. More importantly though,…

The Green Witch Tarot
I have had this beautiful, gentle and nurturing deck for a while. Lately I’ve been drawn to work more closely with it. The Green Witch Tarot is one of the decks I recommend to people who embrace any form of nature-based practice who are looking to incorporate tarot. It is also one of my first suggestions for anyone seeking guidance that doesn’t want to be confronted with potentially triggering imagery. The older I get and the more I see and experience, the more important I find these types of decks. Decks that don’t dismiss difficult topics yet don’t feel the need to overwhelm you with dark and confronting imagery. Instead…

Robin Wood Tarot
For those who like nature inspired decks rich in Pagan symbolism that are super easy to read and nice to look at, then the Robin Wood Tarot may well be for you. This incredibly popular deck closely adheres to the traditional Rider Waite meanings so it’s a great alternative for beginners. But, straight up I want to add that this deck contains some over the top nudity that I know some find questionable and I admit some is a tad bizarre. The man on The Lovers card – hmm bananas anyone. Anyhow, it’s been around for a long time. I’ve only had mine for around ten years and to be…

The Llewellyn Tarot
Imagine a traditional deck inspired by medieval Wales and you have the Llewellyn Tarot. The stunning watercolour artwork depicts Welsh settings, characters and mythology and is worth owning purely for its beauty. I’m surprised it has taken me this long to acquire it, especially since my Mum was Welsh. But, better late than never. Maybe it’s just time now. Another deck, The Universal Celtic Tarot, encouraged me to start studying world mythologies. This deck with its Welsh-mythology-driven Major Arcana fits in well with this. So if you’re into beautiful artwork, great guide books, and/or mythology, and you don’t already have it, this deck could definitely be for you. The Llewellyn…
