Golden Tarot
The Golden Tarot uses digital collages of artwork from the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance period. Looking through this deck is like walking through an art gallery – a pleasure for some, me included, not so much for others. Kat Black, the deck’s creator, wanted “to widen the audience for artwork of an under-rated and little known art period,” 1200 – 1500 AD. She chose not to use any commonly recognisable works in order to showcase pieces people may well not be familiar with. In other words, there’s no Botticelli, da Vinci or Michelangelo. Although, for me, as I flick through the cards there is something familiar about them.…

Viceversa Tarot
I bought the Viceversa Tarot because I was interested in the idea of the back view of the card. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover I really like the front view too. Unfortunately I only have the tuckbox version. Having already purchased mine, I discovered that a kit with a full book written by Lunaea Weatherstone, author of the guide book for The Forest of Enchantment also exists. I enjoy her writing style so I would have liked to have the complete kit but oh well. If I find someone who loves this deck as much as I do I might gift it on and replace it with the…

Tarot of Mystical Moments
I first saw the Tarot of Mystical Moments on a Minnow Pond Tarot’s YouTube video and then it seemed to pop up on a few things I was looking at so I decided to take a closer look. I have over fifty tarot decks so even though I see a lot of cards that appeal to me, I am focused on only adding decks to my collection that are different to anything else I own. This one fits the bill. Catrin Welz-Stein collages together old paintings, photographs and illustrations to create a distinctly feminine deck, that although based on the Rider Waite Smith system, offers some interesting points of difference.…

Ancestral Path Tarot
The Ancestral Path Tarot is a unique deck. It combines the “diverse beliefs of various cultures in order to find commonalities between them” so as to encourage us “to reclaim a personal spirituality that enables us to perceive the divine in ourselves and others.” This is such a beautiful approach to the tarot. Tarot helps us to fashion meaningful stories not only about ourselves, but also the human condition. The Ancestral Path Tarot encourages us to acknowledge that not only are we in charge of shaping our own path through what we choose to believe, do, or deny, we are also shaping paths for those that follow us. This is…

The Star Tarot (2nd Ed.)
It seems like every time I go to write a review I am always gushing about the deck. That is probably because I have done my research before buying each new set of tarot cards. If anything I have been pleasantly surprised by a deck. The Star Tarot is a perfect example. Like most of my decks I had looked at it for a while before I purchased it. I was worried it would be a bit too bright for my tastes, but it isn’t. In fact, I would say a couple of the cards in this deck are amongst my favourite in my collection. And, if I was to…

The Book of Shadows Tarot Volume 2 “So Below”
As the name suggests The Book of Shadows Tarot Volume 2 is one of two and no I don’t own volume one. That may seem strange but there is method in my madness. I have many decks that focus, as the first volume is said to, on the workings of the Universe, yet only a few that focus directly on everyday experiences. But, as the Little White Book suggests, that is where the magic is. Barbara Moore says: Magic … is working with universal energies to create change in the world and I agree. Personally, I would say that it is magical when we find ways to make changes in…

The Wild Unknown Tarot
I have many, many decks, but nothing like this one. If I had to classify The Wild Unknown Tarot, I would say it is a nature-based, contemporary deck. To be honest, I really didn’t think it was going to be for me but how wrong was I. I absolutely love this deck because I find it strikes to the core of the issue at hand. People don’t tend to choose it for readings and yet if I pull it out to go deeper into an issue, or I just show it to them after their reading, most become drawn to the images. As I keep flicking through in order to…

The Wildwood Tarot
I had moved The Wildwood Tarot in and out of my ‘shopping cart’ for months before I decided to purchase it on a whim. I’m glad I did. Although, straight up I will admit that, after looking at only a couple of cards, I reached for the scissors and removed the white border. If you read with reversals, trimming the deck may be problematic because retaining the card name means the backs are unbalanced. This is not an issue for me, but I thought I would put it out there. After I trimmed the cards, I was hooked. The more I looked, the more I saw. For example, when I…

Light Seers Tarot
The Light Seers Tarot is a popular deck for good reason. The strength of this deck is its ability to bring messages through in an accessible way that feels relevant to today. Even though it is a modern interpretation of the tarot, the messages still follow the Rider Waite interpretations fairly closely. For those approaching tarot for the first time, The Light Seers Tarot is a wonderful introduction. It easily connects you with the messages your subconscious is trying to share with you. I have quite an extensive collection of decks, but it is this one that drew my daughter in instantly. When I do readings, I offer my clients…

Spirit Animal Oracle
Straight up, the Spirit Animal Oracle is a beautiful deck. The backgrounds are just as stunning as the rendering of the animals. But I do have to admit that I am not a fan of the animals wearing crowns. I can't derive any purpose for the Owl Spirit's gaudy gold crown.
