The Ink Witch Tarot
The Ink Witch Tarot is an eclectic deck that draws inspiration from the Rider Waite Smith tarot, Greek, Egyptian and Norse Mythology, Arthurian legends, European folk stories and fairy tales, and the magic to be found in every day life and experiences. It combines all of these ideas, yet it feels like a coherent, well thought out, modern deck that manages to add new viewpoints and ideas whilst still honouring tarot traditions. The Ink Witch Tarot Deck I love the ink and watercolour artwork and the clever use of warm and cool grey tones. For a long time this has been one of my favourite colour palettes. It definitely contributed…

The Sasuraibito Tarot
The Sasuraibito Tarot is a contemporary deck that stands out for all the right reasons. It’s not different just for the sake of being different. It’s a powerful healing deck that encourages you to let go of anything that you hold on to purely for appearances. The message that shines through when I work with this deck The Sasuraibito Tarot is to seek who you are not who you, or others, think you should be. The Sasuraibito Tarot Deck Stasia Burrington, the deck’s creator, says this deck was inspired by the Rider Waite Smith system, contemporary living, and Japanese and Buddhist ideas. These influences are present in the artwork and…

Sun and Moon Tarot
The Sun and Moon Tarot is a Thoth inspired deck that seamlessly incorporates aspects of Judaic mysticism, Jungian archetypes, astrology and mythology. By intertwining ancient cultural symbolism from several systems with contemporary artwork, this deck is bound to appeal to those seeking cards with a modern feel that don’t stray too far from traditional tarot. The Sun and Moon Tarot Deck I wasn’t sure how I’d find the faceless people on these cards. But, as crazy as it might seem, I find them full of expression. Maybe it’s because, rather than seeing somebody else’s interpretation, I can see the facial expressions that I feel fit with the setting and what…

Radiant Wisdom Tarot
The Radiant Wisdom Tarot was my first foray into indie decks and it holds a special place in my heart because my children bought it for me. In the “About the Author” section it says ‘She enjoys transforming the mysterious into the obvious and Tarot is one of her favourite tools for doing this.’ Therefore it came as no surprise to me that I was drawn to this deck. We share the same intention and the Radiant Wisdom Tarot serves this purpose well. It’s a clear and uplifting deck that presents simple, accessible imagery that feels user-friendly and non-threatening without compromising the power or scope of the messages available. The…

The Wandering Moon Tarot
I first saw this minimalistic black and white deck whilst watching Scorched Earth Tarot on YouTube. Having seen only a few cards, I paused the video and went in search of it. I was pleasantly surprised to discover it was an Indie deck designed by an Australian and shipped from Australia. Often times, living in Australia means the shipping on Indie decks is nearly as much, if not more in some cases, as the deck itself. Not in the case of The Wandering Moon Tarot. Yay!!! The Wandering Moon Tarot Deck This original deck is designed to be read intuitively. The creator wants you to position yourself in the card.…

African Tarot
The African Tarot is a colourful, unintimidating deck. It encourages you to embrace the present so as to empower you to overcome any obstacles you may face on your path to self-fulfilment. This vibrant childlike, and thus totally non-threatening, artwork provides a safe space to journey within to find our innocence and sweetness. In our current world climate this feels more important than ever. The African Tarot Deck It is easy to overlook and dismiss decks like the African Tarot but that would be a pity. Yes it employs relatively simple artwork and a simple colour palette. Blue and green predominate. The grass is green and the sky is blue.…

Black Cats Tarot
If you like cats and you’re happy for them to be anthropomorphised then there’s a good chance you’ll like the Black Cats Tarot. If like me, you really like black cats, then you’ll love it. This isn’t just a cutesy deck that should only be of interest to cat people though. Rather, it is a well-considered, accessible rendering of the tarot. It allows us to step outside of ourselves as we imagine how the cats pictured are likely to act and feel in the situations they find themselves in. For many this offers a much less confronting approach. We get to process the story as it applies to someone or…

The Everyday Enchantment Tarot
The Everyday Enchantment Tarot was designed with three main intentions. Firstly, to create a deck that a modern audience could find more accessible. Secondly, to connect people with the everyday magic available to us all but often overlooked. And thirdly, to highlight our interconnectedness and to promote inclusivity at all levels. Put simply, this deck aims to connect us with ourselves and the world around us and the extraordinary nature of both. It uses everyday relatable scenarios to do so. The Everyday Enchantment Tarot Deck The Everyday Enchantment Tarot encourages us to take a fresh look at how we view ourselves and others. Ideas for the ways and means to…

Tarot of the Sidhe
The Tarot of the Sidhe is a very present deck. It helps you to see and to connect with the source of your thoughts and emotions and to understand how you’re bringing them to light. Therefore, I find they are great to use when I’m looking for guidance on the best way forward in the present moment. Better than that though, aligning with the Sidhe aligns us with our deepest and truest aspects. Identifying with these parts of ourselves enables us to present and embrace that self in our everyday lives. For me this isn’t a deck to help you plan what you may need to do in the future.…

Healing Light Tarot
The Healing Light Tarot is a striking deck that aims to facilitate healing and a sense of wholeness. It draws its inspiration from the Ancient Celtic belief that the veil between worlds is thinnest at dusk and dawn. I have been aware of this deck for a while but it is a very recent addition to my shelves. The Healing Light Tarot Deck The imagery on these cards is like nothing else in my collection. They’re dramatic and bold without being brash and I feel they capture the essence of the liminal space that inspired them well. It’s difficult to contain them and to be honest I wonder why I’d…
